New Hampshire's surprising & new voter suppression laws...

In 'draconian news of the puritanical northeast' and another sad day for democracy: a voter suppression law was passed yesterday in New Hampshire requiring that voters moving to the state within 30 days of an election provide proof that they intend to stay. The law also subjects them to an investigation if they can't provide said proof.

Also within the law:

  • Severe restrictions for out-of-state students,

  • A requirement to prove property ownership or "certification" by the property owner that you rent or lease,

  • And even more limitations on the type of government ID or birth certificate required.

Just a reminder, "President Donald Trump has repeatedly, and falsely, claimed millions voted illegally. Yet examination after examination of voter fraud claims reveal fraud is very rare, voter impersonation is nearly non-existent, and much of the problems associated with alleged fraud relates to unintentional mistakes by voters or election administrators. Election officials and leaders of the president’s own party also agree fraud is not widespread." - The Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University School of Law

Oh, New Hampshire...
